Read Rave Reviews from Residents and Their Families

Assisted Living

At MorningStar of Fort Collins, we are honored to serve seniors and are committed to providing a lifestyle of comfort, wellness and community for all of our residents.  Our staff, which is the very heart of our community, consists of the kind of people who feel privileged to serve and come to work each day with a smile on their face.  This is why we are so pleased to get positive feedback from residents and their families on how we are doing.

As one resident recently wrote, “MorningStar Assisted Living and Memory Care is a great place. I have been a resident here for three months and the people here are just amazing. They will do anything they can to help you. The facility itself is beautiful.”  She goes on to explain that everything is taken care of and residents do not have to worry about anything.  Adding, “It’s a great facility, but it’s the staff members who make a difference. They’re willing, friendly and caring.”

Another family of a Fort Collins’ resident states, “With every visit we are reassured that this facility is top of the line in all areas. The staff is always professional, caring, warm and friendly. The facility itself is beautiful with a comfortable and welcoming feel: soft with a touch of nature.”   As the winners of a 5-course meal prepared our chef, Edward Gilbert, which they called “amazing,” they also are impressed with the quality of food served to our residents. They say, “There is a lot of variety with choices at every meal to suit everyone’s tastes. MorningStar senior living facility is really a home where older family members are well cared for.”

The Stages of Alzheimer’s Disease

Alzheimer's Care

We know it is devastating to have your loved one receive a diagnosis of Alzheimer’s.  While it’s a lot to process, please take comfort in the fact that there are a lot of resources to help you understand the disease as well as high-quality care options.

One good resource for information and support is the Alzheimer’s Association website.  Not only do they discuss the disease and publish results of the latest research, but they also link you to the numerous ways you can take action in the fight against Alzheimer’s.

To get educated on the disease, you may want to read about the stages of Alzheimer’s so you know what to expect.  The Alzheimer’s Association says the disease “typically progresses slowly in three general stages — mild (early-stage), moderate (middle-stage), and severe (late-stage).”  However each person is different and so is the progression of the disease.

In the early-stage of the disease, a person is typically still independent and engaged in normal life activities but is starting to have memory lapses including forgetting familiar words and the location of everyday objects.  In addition family members are starting to be aware there are problems.

The middle-stage of Alzheimer’s is generally the longest and can last for years.  During this stage, a person requires much more care to ensure their safety and wellbeing.  Anger, frustration and a greater depth of forgetfulness are indicative of this phase.  In the late-stage, a person loses all sense of their environment and the ability to communicate, walk, sit and, eventually, swallow.  Extensive round-the-clock care is required.

For families in the Colorado Springs’ area, MorningStar at Bear Creek is ready to help.  Our community is designed to care for those in the early-stage of Alzheimer’s or other forms of dementia right through to the most advanced stages.  We offer 48 suites as well as respite care and day care programs.  Please visit our website to learn more.

Resident–Directed Memory Care at MorningStar

Dementia Care Colorado Springs

If you are looking for a Colorado Springs community devoted to care of those with dementia-related diseases, you will definitely want to take a look at MorningStar Memory Care at Bear Creek.

At Bear Creek, we take a gentle, resident-directed approach to calm and awaken memories as well as to support capabilities.  Along with using multi-sensory cues, including aromatherapy, our residents are provided with recreational and meaningful activities including music, life skills, art, entertainers and exercises.

According to the National Institute of Health (NIH), “being physically active on a regular basis is one of the healthiest things you can do for yourself,” and that “even moderate exercise and physical activity can improve the health of people who are frail or who have diseases that accompany aging.”  At MorningStar we could not agree more, which is why we offer scheduled exercise every morning with programs such as: Chair Exercises, Morning Stretches, and Circle Ball Exercises.  In addition to presenting creative ways to help our residents remain active, each day at Bear Creek is filled with activities that simulate all five senses to feed the whole body and brain. The result is often a noticeable difference in mood and physical well-being.

One of our unique approaches to memory care includes life skill stations where we incorporate a variety of props that may have played a role in a person’s background to help awaken dormant memories.  When individuals with Alzheimer’s and dementia diseases are reminded of their past, they have the opportunity to take joy in the present and feel calm and connected.

Our Compassionate Leadership Team Inspires Our Whole Community

At MorningStar Assisted Living & Memory Care at Jordan, we are fortunate to have a dedicated, compassionate leadership team that continuously sets a high bar for our community standards.  While visitors may be immediately impressed with our exceptional architecture and well-appointed spaces, it would be meaningless if our staff was not also exceptional.

Leading our team is Executive Director Scott Olivett who has a long history of giving back to the community.  At the age of twelve, Scott began volunteering at his local Red Cross chapter.  That same summer he rode his bike back and forth to his volunteer job at a local nursing home where he arrived early in the day and stayed until after dinner.  It was during this time that he discovered his love of spending time with seniors.  In addition Scott had lost his dad at an early age and took over the role of caretaker for both sets of grandparents.  He found great joy in not only helping them but listening to their stories of simpler times.  We are lucky to have a man of Scott’s integrity and big heart at the head of our team and setting an example for all of us.

Our Wellness Director, Nephatearia Jenkins, says that she is honored to work for MorningStar as it was founded on the same core values and beliefs that she holds.  She has felt the calling to serve seniors and has a profound respect for the knowledge and experience they bring to the younger generation.  Every day she commits to the principle of living life to the fullest and to never take anything for granted.  Our staff and residents of MorningStar at Jordan feel gratified to have someone with Nephatearia’s loving personality lead our wellness programs.

John Bachofer rounds out the leadership team as our Director of Community Relations.  He brings to MorningStar at Jordan an extensive background working in assisted living.  What started as a part-time job while he was in EMT school became a calling and a career.   John is grateful for the many things that seniors teach him including humility, loyalty, discipline, honor and character.  Again our community is fortunate to have someone of John’s dedication and compassion on our team.
