Something for Everyone at MorningStar

Memory Care Living

The MorningStar Assisted Living & Memory Care at Jordan community is specifically designed for seniors who value their independence but need a little assistance.   We provide a “true home” for our residents and strive to create a family-like atmosphere that is supportive and loving.  In addition to our wide range of wellness and fun activities and outings, we host special events throughout the year.

Looking at our website, you will see an assortment of pictures from some of our special events at MorningStar Jordan.  These activities range from a trip to a chocolate and ice-cream factory to a visit from an Elvis impersonator which had at least one resident singing and dancing during the entire performance.

Along with regular activities like Penny Blackjack and Nickel Bingo, our community also participates in important causes such as the The Longest Day event, held each year on the summer solstice, to show love and fundraise for those affected by Alzheimer’s disease.

The Food Committee, made up of residents, gets together each month to discuss their food likes and dislikes. Favorite recipes can be submitted and our Executive Chef does his best to create these dishes. During these meetings Chef Alan also does a food tasting with a demonstration. Last June, in keeping with our “purple theme” for The Longest Day, we enjoyed Acai & Blueberry smoothies made with honey, nonfat yogurt and coconut water. Delicious!

Our community has a total of 55 private assisted living suites and 29 suites in our Reflections Neighborhood devoted to the individualized care of those with memory impairment.  Please visit our website to learn more and be sure to set up a tour to experience firsthand the loving atmosphere at MorningStar at Jordan.

Does Your Parent Need More Care?

Asisted Living Centennial CO

Often families are caught unaware when an aging parent has a fall or another event that immediately signals they need more assistance in their daily life.  You many feel like a neglectful son or daughter for not noticing the changes happening before your eyes, but many seniors routinely deny they need help as they fear losing their independence.  However getting the proper care can actually help make them feel more independent as they know they can live their life without worry and help is available when they need it.

Experts cite several common signs that may indicate your parent needs more assistance including changes in the way they live.  For incidence if your mom was always a good housekeeper, and now her home is looking un-kept, or your dad who always took pride in his appearance, now looks as if he is not bathing regularly.  Signifcant weight loss may also mean a senior is not eating well and/or having trouble preparing meals.

Watch for signs your parent is having trouble walking or appears unsteady and is having difficulty getting up from a seated position.  Other changes are signs of confusion or uncertainty performing familiar tasks.  A dangerous side effect of poor memory can be seniors forgetting to take medications or not following their doctor’s care plan.  Errands can also be difficult to do as many seniors are uncomfortable driving and many stop driving altogether.

While assisted living was a relatively new concept when it first began around 25 years ago, today it is the fastest growing care option for seniors who are able to live independently but require a little assistance.  At MorningStar Assisted Living & Memory Care at Jordan, we provide assistance with “activities of daily living” (ADLs) such as: bathing, dressing, eating, toileting and more.  Our community, located in the Denver suburb of Centennial, offers a total of 55 private assisted living suites and 29 suites in our Reflections Neighborhood devoted to the individualized care of those with memory impairment.

For Families, Assisted Living Offers Peace of Mind

morningstar general 7

For family members, assisted living and memory care can offer peace of mind knowing that your parent or loved one is receiving the care and companionship they need to live safely and as independently as possible.  However we recognize that for some adult children or spouses, considering assisted living brings up feelings of guilt as you think you are not doing enough for them.

As an adult child, you may realize that you have too many responsibilities already on your plate including your own children, a job and other constraints but still feel guilty about not offering your parent a home with you.  Even if you are a caregiver that has reached the point where you know the job is taking a toll on your own health and well-being and you are no longer able to provide the level of care your loved needs, you may still be hesitant to make changes.

This is why assisted living and memory care communities such as MorningStar at Jordan offer the perfect solution.  Our purpose is not to replace you in the life of your aging parent or spouse but rather to assist you in your efforts to make their lives easier, safer and more comfortable.

Our community, now celebrating its three-year anniversary, was designed and built to accommodate the needs of seniors.  Every aspect of our interior common rooms and suites as well as the outdoor grounds is intended to make our residents feel like they are in a true “home.”  From beautiful, private suites that are just waiting for your personal furnishings, delicious three meals a day served restaurant-style, activities galore or companionship; we provide a lovely home.  Please contact us with any questions you may have or set up a visit to see firsthand our beautiful community.

Know the Facts about Heart Disease

morningstar general 8

According to the American Heart Association, heart attack warning signs involve discomfort in the center of the chest that lasts more than a few minutes (or that goes away and comes back). They describe it like an “uncomfortable pressure, squeezing, fullness or pain.”  Signs can also include discomfort in other areas of the upper body such as one or both arms, the back, neck, jaw or stomach.  Other symptoms may include shortness of breath, sweating, nausea or lightheadedness.  As heart disease is the number one killer for both men and women in the U.S. as well as globally, it is important to know the facts and a great resource for up-to-date information is the American Heart Association’s website.

The site has lots of current information on the causes and treatment for atherosclerosis, which is the disease that develops when plaque builds up inside the arteries.  Once plaque has built up and narrowed the arteries, it is more difficult for the blood to flow through and increases the chance of a blood clot forming that can stop blood from flowing altogether.   Atherosclerosis is one of the leading causes of heart attacks, strokes, and peripheral vascular disease.

Ischemic strokes are the most common type of strokes and occur when a blood vessel that feeds the brain is blocked (typically from a blood clot).  Hemorrhagic strokes are caused when weakened blood vessels rupture.  There are two types of weakened blood vessels that are typically responsible: aneurysms and arteriovenous malformations (AVMs).

Congestive heart failure occurs when the heart is not pumping blood as effectively as it should, and thus, not meeting the body’s blood and oxygen needs.  It is one of the most common causes of hospitalization in adults 65 years and older.  Treatment includes medications, surgery and lifestyle changes.  If left untreated, the problem can worsen.

Answers to FAQ Regarding Our Assisted Living Community

Assisted Living Facilities

At MorningStar Assisted Living & Memory Care at Jordan, we offer 55 beautiful, all-inclusive private suites for assisted living in a choice of studio, one-bedroom and two-bedroom configurations.  Our monthly rental fee is based on square footage as well as the location within the building and view, and is designed for seniors 62 years and older.

If you are worrying about getting the level of care that you need in our community, don’t.  Before you even move in, you will sit down with our Wellness Director, who is also a licensed nurse, to discuss your current health and review your medical history to determine the type of care you need.  We offer five levels of care that provide assistance with the Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) as well as various auxiliary services, both medical and non-medical that are priced a la carte.

During our assessment, we will discuss your personal preferences and normal routines so we can put together a care plan that is customized for you.  And again, don’t worry about things changing after you are a resident, as we regularly re-evaluate what you need to accommodate the changes.

Also if you are wondering, couples are welcome at MorningStar at Jordan and can share a private suite surrounded by their own, familiar possessions.   Or if you would like, you are welcome to share a suite with a close friend or relative (must be of the same sex).  We also offer respite care for up to 30 days, or a “trial stay” for as short as a week or up to a full month.

It is our privilege to serve seniors and we foster a culture where kindness and authenticity are paramount.  Furthermore, while rooted in Judeo-Christian beliefs, we welcome all faiths among our residents and team members.

MorningStar’s Website is Loaded with Resources for Families

Asisted Living Centennial CO

While MorningStar at Jordan’s first priority is to our residents, we also recognize that helping our families accept the transition to senior living is important.  This is why we have a website filled with useful information and resources regarding all aspects of our community.

We encourage everyone to read the history of MorningStar and about our Founder/CEO, Ken Jaeger’s mission to start a senior housing company defined by the human touch.  He explains that he “wanted to re-create my grandmother’s house, a place where one can go and feel a sense of family.”  Guided by our Radiance program, you will also learn how we deliver service – with warmth, sincerity and depth.

Furthermore, we understand that senior living decisions are often precipitated by major changes, which is why we provide a guide that details various retirement options.  One recommendation we offer is to clearly identify what you are trying to solve, and to think about not just next year, but rather the next 5 to 10 years.  We encourage you to read our points to consider for help in determining if assisted living is the best solution for you, your parent or spouse.  In addition you will find some of the troubling signs that could signal the onset of Alzheimer’s disease or other forms of dementia, however please keep in mind that only a neurologist can make a diagnosis.

Once you have reached the decision to move to an assisted living or memory care community, we advise you to set up a tour.  Typically the healthier spouse or child of the senior does the initial tour to rule out unsuitable options and narrow down the search.  We recommend not trying to do more than two tours a day as you will get a lot of information to take in and process.  Please contact MorningStar at Jordan if we can be of any help or if you have questions or would like to set up a tour of our wonderful community.
